Wiltshire Council Brings Vehicles Back to Life To Save Money

TWO refuse vehicles from Wiltshire Council’s waste and recycling fleet have been given a major overhaul by Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS) to increase their operational life for an extended contract.

The two vehicles, a 58 and 59 registration respectively, are both Dennis Eagle 26 tonne refuse trucks with Terberg bin lifts and were due to be replaced when the contract was extended by another year.

Andrew Saxton, Fleet Manager, Wiltshire Council said: “The timeline of a contract changed and we considered hiring new vehicles. I have known Spencer at RVS for years so gave him a call. It worked out much better value to have the vehicles overhauled rather than hiring vehicles. In fact it has cost us a fraction of what we would have spent on rental charges.”

The vehicle bodies and bin lifts required extensive repair work including a major packer overhaul and repairing the ejector panels. After completing a full inspection of the vehicles RVS commenced an extensive programme of repair work to bring the vehicles back to manufacturer’s standards. This included replacing all pins, bushes and bearings, checking or replacing control units & switches, and cosmetic repairs. One vehicle was repainted due to extend of welding work required.
